Lorena's Research Stay at UNIARQ in Lisbon

In July 2025, our member of the team Lorena Pérez Yarza, carried out a research stay at the UNIARQ – Centre for Archaeology of the University of Lisbon, in collaboration with Dr. Javier Herrera Rando.

The stay, funded by the CRAC Small Grants, took place from 3 to 10 July 2025 and focused on the comparative study of Lusitanian inscriptions from Portugal. During this period, Dr. Pérez Yarza conducted an in-depth revision of published data and conducted direct research on Lusitanian inscriptions to verify the applicability of the STONE-MASTERS palaeographic methodology to local granite inscriptions. She performed direct autopsies and worked with photographic documentation (ordinary, MRM, and RTI) of selected inscriptions to study the execution of inscriptions and revise their chronology through comparative study. Research was carried out at UNIARQ and complemented by the examination of objects preserved in the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia and the Museu do Teatro Romano (Lisbon), the Museu de Viseu, the Regimento de Infantaria no. 14 (Viseu, with mediation of the local museum), and pieces from the archaeological sites of Lamas de Moledo, Arronches, and Idanha-a-Velha.
