Peter Kruschwitz (University of Vienna; PI of the ERC-funded project MAPPOLA) Title: Special order: Verse inscriptions and the stonecutter’s workshop

Peter Kruschwitz is Professor of Ancient Cultural History at the University of Vienna and since 2019 PI of the ERC-funded project MAPPOLA: “Mapping out the poetic landscape(s) of the Roman empire”. He is also a member of the Pontifical Academy for Latin and a full member of the Academia Europaea. In his research work, he focuses on the Latin poetic culture, and the epigraphical landscape of Roman verse inscriptions. His publications cover a variety of topics on Roman literary sources (Plautus, Terence), secondary inscriptions of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and stylistic aspects of Latin poetry. He was part of the project the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities; Lecturer, Reader, and Professor in Classics at the University of Reading; a Visiting Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford; and a holder of the British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship. He was also a visiting scholar at the University of Seville, and belongs to the editorial board of Bryn Mawr Classical Review and Habis.
